Boat Safety Examination

Boat Safety Examinations
The Boat Safety Examination is similar to an MOT for motor vehicles. Here at Martham Boat Building & Dev Co Ltd, we have our own qualified Boat Safety Examiner. Initially, our Examiner will either ask for the craft to be brought to Martham, or if local, he will go out on site to carry out the inspection.

Most craft now, will be required to prove that a Boat Safety Examination, has been carried out on their vessel for it to be allowed on the waterways.

This report will be required by your local Waterways Authority in order for them to issue you with a Licence. Once you have had a Boat Safety Certificate issued for the craft, you will need to renew it every 4 years.

There is a checklist of items to which the craft will need to comply. If it passes on all the items, then a certificate will be issued, which can forwarded to your local Waterways Authority. In the event of a failure, and remedial works need to be carried out, our Examiner can advise on the best cause of action for the non compliant items.

After remedial works have been completed, the craft will then be retested and issued with the certificate, when all the items comply. For further information, please contact either Helen or Diane on 01493 740249 or by clicking here to email us.
